Armstrong continues to come against the argument of long-term suppression, but this shield brother’s question is so crucial, that once I read it, I knew I had to write on this topic immediately. It is becoming more and more important every day, for everyone possible to understand why the manipulation is prosecuted and ongoing, even more than who is doing it or how.
The question basically goes like this, and I’m sure you’ve heard it too by this point:
“Why would the governments(and large banks who run them) care about suppressing gold and silver for the long haul? There’s not alot of cash to be made in rigging these things ‘perpetually’, so why would the banking cartel choose to suppress silver and gold?”
This question keeps coming up over and over, and the answer is so important that it bears repeating, especially since some newcomers to precious metals are just now getting involved in this fight.
The number of voices out there still hilariously clamoring to defend the gold and silver markets as “freely and fairly-traded” and “totally legitimate” are are shrinking faster than the real U. S. job market. It has now become apparent to all but the most willfully blind, that there are serious, serious problems of price suppression within the precious metals’ futures trading space.
So let’s address a few of Mr. Armstrong’s actual words, but not before we clear something up first.
First of all, anyone who’d deny that governments and banks couldn’t or wouldn’t suppress precious metals’ prices for very long periods of time, isn’t very savvy in the history department. After all, it’s barely half a century since Charles de Gaulle helped destroy the gold market riggers in the 1960’s by taking delivery of vast tonnage of gold, on behalf of France, from the London Gold Pool. The London Gold Pool was constructed by the Anglo-American banking powers, to hold gold’s exchange rate down at a price of $35 per ounce.
Eventually they had to abandon this price fixing scheme , due to the tremendous loss of gold, but salient point remains: it is historical fact that banks and governments have felt that it is within their own best interests, to suppress the price of gold. They’ve repeatedly demonstrated that doing so for long periods(literally decades at a time), isn’t really that difficult, when you own most of the world’s investment-grade gold.
This is elementary stuff, but another point I wanted to bring up, that nearly no one else mentions, is that the classical gold standard (and most gold standards in general) by definition, is purely a long-term price suppression scheme.
That’s actually all a gold standard is!
It is a group of governments and bankers, who own gargantuan stockpiles of gold, all agreeing on a price which they think is fairly sustainable, in which to either print currencies as a derivative of that stockpile of gold(in a worst case scenario), or in which to put a piece of gold in your hand(in the best case scenario).
It doesn’t matter what the gold standard’s rate of exchange is: whether $20, or $35, or $35,000 an ounce, if they all “agree” on the exchange rate to peg gold at …..then it’s not a freely and fairly-traded rate, and the people living under it will simply be eventual victims of another generational, monetary scam, repeating the terrible cycle all over again.
That is why this Watchman opposes the gold standard! A gold standard, in our modern contexts, is nothing but price rigging, and price suppression. I’m not for a gold standard, but for simply gold and silver in the hands of the people, trading freely against any other currencies(whether government or private) in any form.
With that said, let’s take a look at part of a response that Mr. Armstrong wrote to a reader, when asked if the day would come where he’d acknowledge gold and silver price suppression:
Sorry – that day will never arrive. It is pure BS used to sell the metals. Olhe isto deste modo. WHY buy something that can never rise if these stories are true? It makes no sense whatsoever. I remain bullish long-term BECAUSE there is no such suppression. If there was, it cannot be a free market so write it off.
The decline in the metals is in line with the global economy. Come on – look at oil . The metals will rise. They are NOT perpetually suppressed. The time is just not right. What would the banks, who care only about the next quarter’s trading profit, keep the metals suppressed without profits to pay regular bonuses? EVERY manipulation they have EVER done with the metals is to make fake rallies because they KNOW the gold promoters will talk everyone into buying. To many – reason flies out the window. This has become a religion to perpetually hold rather than trade. The manipulators get to sell those rallies and make a fortune….
There is NO money for them to perpetually suppress the metals. If there is no profit, they are not there. Desculpa. A manipulation stands out because it is abnormal. The metals are in perfect sync with the global sectors of markets. Even the Platinum manipulation bribing Russian officials to recall all platinum sent prices up. They need people to buy in order to sell the highs. You make 10x more in a short-sale at the high is less time than a buy and hold for decades be it stocks or metals. That is HOW they make a fortune. Not by trickle down bear markets. They know the gold believers will hold until they lose everything. They want the big bang for the buck and that comes with creating fake rallies.
Now, the more hardened vets among our shield brother camp, were probably going through those lines, laughing and punching holes in each one. The number of mistakes and half-truths could rival the stars in the firmament, so I’ll just restrict my rebuttal to a few of his more important statements, Let’s take a look at this one first:
“I remain bullish long-term(on gold and silver) BECAUSE there is no such suppression. If there was, it cannot be a free market so write it off.”
That is pure hogwash! Just because a market can be rigged for long periods of time, does not mean it will always be rigged. The London Gold Pool(and the current Washington D. C./Wall Street/City of London gold pool), lost their multi-decade struggle because enough folks caught onto their scam of putting too many claims upon each ounce in the vault.
This is exactly what is happening again right now.
You are watching history rhyme against its earlier stanzas. Washington and London are losing their fight to sustain a suppressed, dollar price of gold, because the world(and an Eastern Bloc of countries) has learned of their tricks, and is now rejecting fiat debt notes, called U. S. dollars, and buying up too much gold(and silver) for the scam to continue.
The real reason to be bullish on silver and gold is the precise opposite of what Armstrong says! It is because the gold and silver markets are in the last throes of a generational suppression scheme, that such an enormous opportunity in gold and silver exists. All price suppression schemes end, and all scammers get outed in the end.
Let’s see another point of Armstrong’s:
The metals will rise. They are NOT perpetually suppressed. The time is just not right. What would the banks, who care only about the next quarter’s trading profit, keep the metals suppressed without profits to pay regular bonuses?…..There is NO money for them to perpetually suppress the metals. If there is no profit, they are not there.
Ok, this point of Armstrong’s is so sophomoric, so simplistic, and so colossally ridiculous , that I have a great deal of trouble believing that he actually believes what he’s telling others.
Armstrong is too smart to say something this stupid.
If you remember nothing else I say in this article remember this: the banking powers do not suppress gold and silver to make fiat dollars directly…..
Rather, they suppress gold and silver to make fiat dollars possible!

It is precisely because the entire system is a Ponzi scheme, based upon the fraudulent notion that debt is money, and that debt is wealth, that the real “money” and power have always been in having a lease from the entire world, to create the world reserve currency, and possessing the credit rating that goes with it.
The real power has never been in pocketing dollars from miniscule trades(that’s how a guppie thinks), but in being able to issue unlimited quantities of them.
The banking, military, and political power that comes from having a system, owned entirely by central and bullion banks, is so vast, that it’s mind-boggling.
In fact, the power and wealth that flow from it is so great, that human beings don’t yet know where its limits are!
Case in point: the LIBOR scandal was a malevolent scheme that involved hundreds of trillions, hundreds of TRILLIONS of dollars, and ended up transferring so much wealth to those at the top, that we still haven’t completely gotten to the bottom of it!
If these financial institutions can rig something that was larger than even global GDP, by orders of magnitude….then the pertinent questions remain:
What can’t they suppress for their own sole benefit?
There is no market, no currency pool, and by extension….no group of people on earth, they can’t exert a measure of control over.
All this fraud is possible, due to the collusion of the money powers that have taken control of the world’s currency systems, all of which are based upon the cracked and fraudulent foundation of the U. S. fiat dollar standard.
This is one thing that Bix Weir is right about: without a game plan to rig and suppress the fiat dollars’ main competitors (gold and silver), the currency cannot survive. Any central planner worth his salt, knows that you must first have a game plan to hold the prices of precious metals in check, denominated in your currency(whatever that fiat currency is)….. or the prices of both metals will escape you, and then confidence in your currency itself will be destroyed.
This is why someone like Ted Butler (a brilliant man, whom I highly respect) has been so perplexed lately about why JP Morgan and Scotia Bank continue to “let the tech funds off easy” in the gold and silver futures trading arena. He doesn’t understand why the banks wouldn’t just simply refuse to sell their longs that they amassed when PM prices get too low. He has often wondered aloud why the banks don’t simply hang onto those longs and really, really make some big cash on the upswing.
The reason why they don’t do that, is because it’s not chiefly about “making cash”… but rather “making cash possible”.
If silver did spike to say, $100 or $200 in a short space….yes, I suppose the big bank suppressors would pocket several billion dollars…. but then there would be a worldwide run on silver and gold( that isn’t there ), followed by a financial panic. The metals would fly to the stars, and the US dollar, and the entire financial system built upon it ….. would cease to be.
Anyone who doesn’t see this one point, is not rightly seeing or understanding what silver and gold are. They are not commodities. They are not “investments”. They are money, they are currency.
Think about it, if you alone have the power to create dollars and extend credit based upon them, then you can finance whatever you want, to the tune of whatever amount you want!
Ya want war? Well, just ask Miss Yellen at the Federal Reserve to print up some more goodies, and issue a little more debt to anyone who wishes to buy it (locking in that debt at the lowest interest rates in history) and voila!
Perpetual trillions for your phony “war on terror”!
Ya want 50 million people on food stamps? Just print up some fresh Bennie bucks, and dole it out to the masses, as you pass the bill for it(with interest) onto the backs of the tax slaves under your debt pyramid!
Ya wanna rig key markets…..like LIBOR, like housing, like forex markets, like equities, like commodities, like bonds? Simply congregate enough large financial institutions together, build the best HFT trading platforms, make a few phone calls, send a few emails….and the world is your oyster!
For the banks to let the precious metals fly just to make some pocket change on the longs they hold, would be tantamount to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs!
This scam has always been about protecting the illusion of the system as a whole, the full “faith” in the U. S. dollar. Fiat currencies are a religion, a false one. It is mere belief that suspends them. They’ve always been, and will always be, con fidence games, with emphasis on the “Con”.
This is a ridiculously truncated version of what I wanted to write, but you get the idea:
The contemporary, fiat currency system, which central and international banks constructed, is a model that’s built upon the bedrock of systemic fraud in multiple markets. The only way the system can continue is by constant expansion of currency and debt. The system has become so full of rot, that it can’t survive without fraud and constant rigging, especially of its perennial competitors: silver and gold.
The untold wealth and power these banks have amassed, comes from being able to steer world markets, whether currencies, or OTC derivatives, or bonds, or commodities, or real estate, and none of that steering is possible without the fiat, debt-based currency system it rests upon.
The monetary system itself is where “the money is”, and that is why the Powers that Be are willing to spend several trillion dollars a year suppressing silver alone! Even at a price tag that high, it is still well worth continuing.
A Ponzi scheme, which is built upon the erroneous notion that debt is money(which it isn’t), and that debt can be a wholesome, moral currency(which it can’t), isn’t a system that’s “long for this world.”
N o edifice can long stand without a solid foundation of integrity, and no ponzi scheme ever invented has possessed integrity.
As a castle built upon the sand, so is this monetary system, which is built upon the shifting sands of central planning, debt-pyramiding, and chronic market-rigging.
The Tide is coming in, and will, thankfully, wash away every ill-conceived, wicked, and two-faced scheme of mice and of men…
Your silver(and gold) purchases are a large part of that tide, which is eroding the fragile foundations of worldwide fraud!
Your actions are making their actions a most untenable proposition! Keep them up!
When enough of humanity chooses honesty over fraud, freedom over central planning, and sound money over debt slavery, then and only then, will what is spoken in secret be shouted from the rooftops!
Only then will a better world be possible. We’re on the cusp of this real break-through, of this real change in the consciousness of mankind.

I do enjoy your topical renderings; you have a very poetic, yet informative writing style. That said, I have a quick question: I understand that you are not in favor of a “gold standard” as it certainly does imply some sort of fixing of the price, thereby leaving true price discovery to the dogs…..but, what about a gold backed or partially gold backed currency, or is that essentially the same thing as a “gold standard?” I’m very new to fiscal/monetary machinations and theory, and as such, I really don’t have a leg to stand on yet, I just keep stacking as best I can. Well, there are various types of gold standards. Some of which are more preferable than others, but all of which have failed to protect the wealth and power of the people, and have failed to restrain banks and governments. In fact, the classical gold standard, or gold specie standard, while more preferable to the "gold exchange standard" or "gold bullion standard", was simply a tool of the banksters. I'm not in favor of a "gold-backed" currency, but in favor of silver and gold being the currency . If silver and gold coin specie were coined by government and private mints, and allowed to float at market rates in relation to one another(instead of trying to fix it to say 15 to 1, or 20 to 1), then I'd have no problem with that. I also have no problem with receipts for gold and silver deliverable at a bank, which is what currencies used to be. In the Crime of 1873', when the bankers demonetized silver in the U. S., they issued a decree that gold coins alone would be the monetary standard, which gave banks the right to refuse payment in the predominant money of the day: silver. This caused the common man's money to be dumped onto the market en masse, which undercut its purchasing relative to the only money that the banks allowed(which also happened to be one they all owned). gold. It caused a crushing deflation, which made the banks and oligarchs who owned it, richer and richer, while causing the common civilian populace to become poorer and poorer, as they were crushed year after year, in silver's exchange rate to gold. So while silver and gold specie standard would be the least of evils. it has never yet been tried with a free-market mechanism pricing the two metals one against the other, on a regular basis. The elites love the other types of "gold standards" where they keep all the gold, and the people get all the paper. Remember, gold is power, and they keep all the power that way. Any "standard" devoid of specie is a standard completely devoid of honor and truth. And any standard which doesn't allow both silver and gold to circulate as currency and money, while their exchange rates to one another are determined in a freely and fairly traded marketplace, will result in empowering banking elites, rather than you. - WW.
Hi WW, Exellent article Sir, this reply is of the same quality! I hope you dont mind me rambeling and tossing some thoughts and concepts (smile). Using metal as currenty (besides being not very handy) drives down its value! It has most value when lying very still as wealth, trading hands very rarely. Besides that, going back to metal currency will get humanity back in this cycle because of the imperfectness of human beings. First all metal currency, then some paper and mostly metal, then mostly paper and some metal, then a gold, silver or bimetallic system and then a fiat system again and again and as bonus (sarc) many wars for dominance. Here in Europe we had that cycle/regime officially in place since +-1450 and since late 1300 in practise. The house of Medici (yes, way before the Rothshields among others) introcuded it. The Chinese even know it longer. They introduced paper money to Europe via Marco Polo who traveled the whole silk road. In all of history no matter what societies tried, even slavery or brutal debtor prisons as a scare, nothing would not keep people from going into debt. Our very specialised economies cannot work without going into debt I dare to say. To me that is fine and no problem. Debt ponzi schemes like the current one we live in ofcourse is. I find fiat currency quite handy. Not the hassle to have to send a coin to the China for a gadget for example. Sending that will cost a whole lot. I will let get all the ones that want to go into debt (including institutions) go into debt. I even wont sit on that debt note/digit so its easier for the debtors to pay (off) their loan. Ill spend that fiat on things I need and want, my (long term) savings go into metal. Many countries showed us the example. France and friendly European countries did when they exchanged the dollars for metal. Relative recently Venezuela exchanged debt gold for the real metal. More and more people worldwide are now doing the same and taking over the baton of countries that went before us and showed the way forward. The tide (of fiat savers) is moving out and the Wave (of physical metal savers) is moving in. The seperation of money into currency (fiat) and wealth (metal) is coming. In gold, quite a few central banks are your friend and they have a vested interest in blowing up the paper gold market (might they be drivers of lower paper metal?). Maybe we will have a bi metallic mark to market later on. With mr Salinas Price in Mexico silver people added up anty as well. There are central banks that ones that issue their currency from gold and mark gold to market on their balance sheet. Other Central banks issue their currency from the USA treasury note. Seismic forces at work if u ask me. Most of the silk road countries CB's now use gold to issue their currency from. Just a thought to consider. How come the Byzantines had a monetary system that lasted nearly a millenium and all we can come up with since centuries is a money system that holds together around a 100 years maximum? I think that when one holds someone else his/her debt as wealth is a key problem riddeling societies for way to many centuries. After all, it puts the debtor up against the saver and vice versa eventually. Let us have metal for savings/wealth, let them have their debt and Ill use it as currency. I agree with a good bit of those thoughts. I'm certainly not suggesting that folks be outlawed or kept from indebting themselves to others, as if such a thing was possible. I'm simply saying there was a time when folks looked down on others who chose to take the yolk of debt upon them, and sacrificed their own freedom in the process. Now debt is the chiefest virtue in the Western world, instead of the closet skeleton that everyone used to hide. I'm saying it's possible to maintain both a currency and wealth-saving paradigm, without usury, without a handful of financial powers demanding "the earth plus 5%". All there is, is all there is. Usury has made the entire world prison of debt slaves, and basing a currency system as a tiny share of debt is utter poison. Bitcoin, "hours" systems, etc have proved that you can issue currency free and clear of debt. I don't mind if others choose an inferior form of wealth storage than I do. I don't mind if others want simply currencies, instead of money or wealth. I do mind a cartel of financiers writing all the laws, which in turn give them blank checks with which to ensnare the future labor of mankind as a downpayment for their insolence. When I was young I saw this huge difference between my grandpartens refusing to go into debt and my parents who loved the stuff. I also do not get people who store their savings in fiat. I would have thought by now more people would realise it sucks bad as a store of wealth. A smart man once said, if one can only see value in fiat one cannot see value at all. Sadly I think most of the people will learn to see value in all things besides fiat only after the ''big event''. The good news is, after that event much of the cartel their power will be broken since people will not save in fiat anymore. I happened to read Mr. Armstrong's article first and was hoping to find a rebuttal to his ideas somewhere out there since I am studying these monetary issues and trying to figure out who is right. Your argument makes more sense to me based on history (De Gaulle forced Nixon to close the gold window)and the obvious problem that governments will print money without limit if they can get away with it. Interesting article - I do think the views expressed are sound. However, I do not agree that having gold/silver or any other "hard" currency is a panacea either. Certainly doing so would remove some of the excesses presently being conducted, but longer term such policies enshrine wealth inequality. It is also quite unclear that a hard currency limits banksters in any way - they've been around as long as money has been. My own view is more cyclical: you can never stay in a regime too long - either fiat or hard. No matter what the system, there will always be an increase in the "gaming" of said system until it becomes unsupportable.
Hello, and welcome to our Truth HQ community! It is my belief that wealth equality should not really be the aim of a free society. There has to be a decent amount of inequality to actually lay the groundwork for a functioning civilization. Those who have strived for equality above all other ideas within history, ended up being terrorized by the sort government that no living person would wish to live under, while treachery abided in the hearts of their countrymen, who simply wanted what their neighbor had. There must be a natural working hierarchy in society, because there is a natural working hierarchy in nature. However, your point is valid: at some level in a rigged system, inequalities reach beyond what is natural, and easily descend into tyranny . such as what we have right now. where a few million people actually own 90+% of the world's resources(and a few financial banking dynasty families, own an enormous slice of that 90%). The Fed and the other institutionalized central banks, which made themselves law, spend every waking second siphoning off precious wealth from the poor and middle class. This is the chief aim of the modern central-banking regime: to quietly and effectively transfer wealth from those who already own nearly everything, from those who have next to nothing. So yes, this Watchman isn't saying that hard assets alone will right all wrongs. After all, U. S. citizens had a bi-metallic system in the beginning, and it didn't stop the banking cartel from stripping that away from the people, because the people weren't vigilant. Only honesty in money, coupled with courageous vigilance in the people, who are willing to fight for the most basic of freedoms, can sustain a more equitable world. I appreciate your thoughts. One historical example of the soundness of hard assets being good for the long haul, is the Byzantine Empire. who coined and used gold and silver for nearly 1,000 years. Even centuries after they were sadly gone, other kingdoms continued to use that money from their bygone rule. because it was pure, wholesome, and true. Thanks again for your input! Again, your goals are admirable. However, the Byzantine empire is a terrible example of "hard" currency. Sure, it was "around" for 1000 years, but you would have been sorely disappointed if you relied upon the gold and/or silver currency as a firm measure of value. For one thing, the debasement was so regularized that gold coinage was completely discontinued at one point. For a second, the gold levels within Byzantine solidii fell so dramatically that coins in the later eras pretty much bend under their own weight. You can see this clearly in the "Catalogue of Byzantine Coins in the Dumbarton Oaks Collection "et al "Between the reigns of Romanus IV and NicephorusII (i. e. 1067-1081), th silver content fell from some 90% to some 70%, and during the early years of Alexius it presumably fell considerably further." Thus the only real benefit to so called "hard" vs. fiat currencies is the level of debasement, and that the debasement is more readily obvious to the common man. Unfortunately in this era of internet commerce, the actual medium of transfer is the electronic impulse. Given this, even a so called "hard" currency would still have extensive "fiat" characteristics as there is literally no way to ensure the electronic versions match up to physical reality. Or put another way: if the government is so honest and thorough as to ensure 1 to 1 physical gold vs. electronic gold, it could as easily do so with physical dollars vs. fiat dollars.

You just mentioned the most vital matter - Gold should not be pegged to any currency (No Gold Standard). This is the Freegold paradigm - Gold should be freed (unshackled) from all currencies. It should be allowed to float against all currencies - Free to find its TRUE VALUE, for those that want to hold their Savings and/or Wealth in physical form. No one would be forced to hold gold. It should be free - to do what it does best!
Agreed, now if only many in that camp would apply the same 5,000 year old logic to silver. we'd really be getting somewhere. :) I love and appreciate both precious metals, and recognize publicly the war that central and bullion bankers have waged on them for generations. Well said Wealth Watchman, well said indeed. ******* A casual look at coins and currencies through the decades and centuries proves the point that all currencies are doomed to fail if gold and silver are not the bedrock and foundation of the money supply. The Keynesians belief system/cargo cult will be put to shame when the fiat folly eventually drops to nothing as gold and silver protect their owners from inflation/deflation/currency collapse that must assuredly come from all of this money printing going on world wide. Custody of this 'XXX' tonnage is released to the exchange in order to initiate the sale, and bidders for the REAL metal either appear for the current or future quote, or DO not appear, if the currency is considered more valuable than the REAl metal offered on the exchange. The seller; delivering the 'XXX' tons incurs cost, and the buyer MUST take physical delivery; incuring cost. This 'drag' makes the transaction stickier to both parties, as they now have skin in the trade. Volumes would again reflect available world physical supply and demand reflecting real world market conditions. Speculators such as Central Banks, even with unlimited access to fiatcould and certainly would buy all REAL metal offered until they deem DELIVERY @ the quoted exchange price to be too dear relative to the use of the fiat for loans, real world investments, etc. Sellers will only deliver metal to the exchange relative to their trust that the fiat they receive can be put to work at greater return than holding the metal itself. The metals exchanges worldwide; if only dealing in REAL METALS exchange; the physical stuff, would then self balance at the market price arbitrage and the exchange value for any fiat currency would indirectly find equilibrium in terms of ounces PHYSICAL gold equivelent at the live quote in terms of PHYSICAL delivery. With this simple restaint; the PHYSICAL market of the exchange itself could not survive if the the metal in one currency were somehow manipulated to be cheaper in another; and if so, no metal would get deposited to the exchange for that currency. I believe this would work for any commodity, and would marry the physical world of supply and demand; flows to stock, and fiat to commodity exchange values could not go wild. Wasn't this the original goal and construct of the commodities exchanges, and wouldn't this bring volumes back to the exchanges; knowing there would be an open and free bid reflecting a competitive REAL POSSESSION exchange?

The bottom line is, there are a number of very simple steps that could be taken, in any order, to make the system more open, more honest, and more true to life than it is now. Your thesis makes more sense than any model used in the West. The East is better, but still not great. There's less leverage there in some cases, and I do like the idea of laws which stipulate that only one party can hold title to the metal at any one time, and that no one who wishes to buy or sell metal, can sell someone else's metal, or acquire metal with a compromise(unclean) title. They must first have title to real ounces, and sell only those real ounces to buyers who are willing to acquire the same title on the same day. Thanks for your input. Silver and gold will be freed. Dear Sir, I happened to know of Martin Armstrong two years ago when surfing a website in Hong Kong with lots of useful knowledge about gold and silver. It contained Martin Armstrong's articles and theories which were translated into Chinese for laymen. Initially, I found what he wrote very convincing until recently when he keeps refuting the fact that PMs have been rigged non-stop. I love all your articles. This one is particularly a masterpiece! Once in a while he provides an analytical post, enough so that I read them, however many times I am appalled at his narrow view and ad hoc use of cycle phases to match current events. === On a separate note, WW said: "They [gold/silver] are not commodities. Since Mike Maloney suggests use of the term 'currency' to distinguish fiat from precious metals, then I suggest the term 'specie' for precious metal coinage thus: "They [gold/silver] are not commodities. Yes, some worship charts. I understand that the enemy has now totally become the chart that he paints. Please understand, I'm not anti-Armstrong, as I actually think some of the things he says in other areas are useful. Just not in precious metals, as far as this goes. I'm anti-idiocy, anti-lies, anti-disinfo ESPECIALLY when it comes to the peoples' only monetary protection: gold and silver! I don't have a problem with the term "specie" at all, but the masses at large barely know of gold or silver yet, much less how we'd break it down further. Those terms will be useful and helpful as this knowledge seeps out more and more. Silver and gold are "currency" only in how and when the free market owners of it decide to use it to transact. Like, bitcoin, or local fiat currencies. I like Mike's distinction, and most of the time I use it that way. Gold and silver are more chiefly money right now, than currency. Another great piece WW. It only further reaffirms why i have poured my savings into PMs. I started learning about money and debt about 7 0r 8 years ago. It took me ages to get my head around the idea that governments dont issue the money and that the fiat currency is created as a debt, there is nothing behind it. I then read a book by john perkins called confessions of an economic hitman, this book did more than anything to wake me up to the criminality of this system. This system has to collapse and the criminals who run it brought to justice, under their governance the world has become a polluted, irradiated, debt ridden, environmentally impoverished nightmare designed to enrich a handful of families. If by buying a few ounces of PM helps to consigns these physcopathic scum to the history books then go for it. Id never heard of armstrong until he was interviewed by greg hunter, i just thought he seems to be playing the devils advocate, because he was stating the opposite about PMs to most of the other guests id seen interviewed.

Hey WW, this is something to consider why we are seeing the actions in the metal prices that we do. The Yen Carry trade is a widely known market mechanism for banks and large trading funds. The way it works is deep pocket speculators can borrow Yen at very low interest rates then go out and sell those Yen for other currency investments providing better yields. It is a very lucrative play. This all works as long as the Yen is either falling or maintaining its value against the other currency being used to gain better yield. If the Yen rises then those carry trades must be unwound. One can make the comparison to the Yen carry trade and relate it to the gold market. Central Banks lease out their gold at low interest rates to banks and large spec funds. They then sell the gold and place it in various higher yielding stocks, bonds or whatever. Then as long as gold is falling in price or going sideways this whole central bank leasing works and provides the incentive to keep gold in a bear market. This is a win win for the fed as it supports the dollar.
You're right about that, Jskauai. There's no doubt that the QE going on in Japan is giving the banks cover to go for broke , and to lure even more specs into the short side, no question. But you must remember, this QE started in the last 2 weeks, yet gold and silver have had anvils strapped to their backs for the last 3.5 years. There was no Japanese QE when gold fell $100 the very same day that Switzerland announced the Franc would be pegged to the Euro. There was no Japanese QE when silver traded dozens of billions of paper ounces on the day of the Boston Bombing, breaking it through the all important $26 mark. There was no Japanese QE the morning gold broke through $1,525 on a 50 ton paper sell order in the span of a couple of minutes before the crack of dawn in NYC trading in 2013. This Carry Trade is the latest excuse of the day to give explanation for two items continuing to crater in price every week, every month, despite the fact that both of those items are in substantial supply deficits year after year. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback on the matter. There are men whom I hold in very high regard who've drawn attention to the actions in Japan as a cover for banks to do this. WW, the point that I was trying to make was the need for a bearish phase for the carry to work. Right now I do not believe it is the fed and agents driving price down but more the momentum players believe short is a sure bet. The bankers will defend their carry bets when metal come to overhead resistance. I have telling all theses with ears to hear the compelling value silver is at this time.
Hey again, I understood your meaning on the metals, and Ted Butler says the same right now, JPM has covered alot of their shorts, and Scotia is likely the big short at this time, but what I mean is that they were the ones who started the snowball rolling, and they're the ones going short against all the new longs on days like Friday. That is not the specs. The specs are being lured onto the short side while this is going on, no question about that. The Fed and banks started it by breaking it down through key points, and then just sit back and watch the pavlovian spec sheep do the rest of their dirty work for them. But, the banks aren't done luring, I feel they're going to continue to hold silver and gold under key resistance points, as on Friday. That was not the specs on Friday who held metals just under key resistance. Again, this is definitely something to consider. I think you're wise to tell others of the phenomenal value of silver at these levels, or anything close to it. Obrigado! - WW.
I do not believe in having a gold standard, either. I believe in having a system of competing currencies, wherein parties in agreement can accept whatever they want as money. However, there is one thing that gives any money or currency an advantage over all of its competitors. That is -- whatever currency the government mandates for payment of taxes gives value preference to that currency, as everyone must acquire that currency so as to pay taxes. I never see this topic discussed and vetted with regard to the topic of money, currencies, and/or legal tender. My preference would be to have a mono-metallic monetary standard (silver) and a bi-metallic monetary system (silver and gold), as is spelled out in the Coinage Act of 1792; but with NO fixed ratio between silver and gold values (they were fixed at 15-to-1 in that Act, which created many problems). We need one independent variable (silver) to measure the change in values of everything else (dependent variables), including gold. This type of system does not mean that we have to use the specie for our transactions. We can use paper certificates as long as they are 100% backed by silver/gold and redeemable, on demand, for silver/gold. I believe I have read that the Bank of Amsterdam used this system in the 1600's, with complete integrity, and the paper certificates actually traded at a premium to the physical specie because of their convenience, and because the people had complete confidence in their 100% backing and convertibility. No monetary system is perfect, but I believe this is the best one for the people and the worst one for the government and banks.
As long as gold and silver aren't hit by sales taxes, it shouldn't matter what is acceptable to pay taxes. As long as transferring from metals to strict government currencies is able to be accomplished without 'capital gains' taxes on gold or silver. the process can and should be instant and painless. So, it is capital gains that is the hurdle which governments erect in front of precious metals. Yes, there should be no dictated ratio. A ratio is nothing but a peg, and a peg is nothing but price fixing. Agreed on that point. I don't have a problem with a paper receipt that is redeemable in metal, the problem lies in that whoever holds that gold, and issues those receipts in the end, will ultimately be overwhelmingly tempted to steer from 100%, 1 to 1 ratio of paper to metal, to using some leverage. Thank you, my friend! The question you've just asked, about the real ratio value of silver to gold. is really the only left that matters in regards to its valuation. I'm not going to get too involved in that answer yet(though the Watchman definitely has a strong opinion on it), the problem in getting involved in the ratio prediction game right now, is that it takes our brothers' focus off of what they do have control over(stacking ounces), and puts it on what we don't have control over(prices and ratios). Let's just say this: the current ratio of nearly 75 to 1. is absurd beyond belief. It is much, much lower than 75 to 1. For now though, I'll just focus on impaling the enemy, rather than where the ratio might go once said enemy is impaled. :) Thanks again. - WW.
Kangaroo, looking at gold to silver ratio which is now about 74 to 1 that is near the high end if you look at this ratio over the lat 30 years. The average is some where near 55 to 1. Then at gold trading at 1150, silver should be about 21.

That SILVER is far more precious than GOLD and in fact SILVER is the MOST PRECIOUS OF ALL PMs. This I believe [ and I think you too WW ] is simply a mathematical equation. Get 1 million people to purchase 1000oz per year and all the supply of the worlds SILVER is taken up. or get 10 Million people to purchase 100 ounces and the same happens.
